Drawing the attention of state government in regard to the pathetic road condition at Mon district, the Mon District Private Driver’s Union (MDPDU) on Thursday said that the present chain bridge located near Lapa Lampong Tizit was destroyed due to corrosion and thereby causing immense hardship to the people of the area.
MDPDU in a press statement by its president, T.N. Akum Konyak said the arising problem had already cut off the main supply line for transportation of essential commodities and transportation of passengers especially during summer.
Union claimed that the bridge which rusted couple of years ago was repaired for urgent usage lasting for a few years, and after which, construction and repairing of the bridge was ignored.
The union also pointed out the only road link to Assam and other districts, the life line of the area, was worse than village link road.
Adding woes to the already weak road condition, the recently indefinite road blockade called by All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had made the life miserable to the people of the area, added MDPDU.
Taking all these hardship into account, the union appealed to the government to take up good measures and execute work at the earliest involving construction of the rusted bridge.
