State government has called for a general public meeting on October 8 at the Heritage Village, Kisama to enable Nagas to speak unison over land and its resources, as there were various instances of infringement over this safeguard in the process of administrations.
Home minister Imkong L. Imchen, in an official communiqué said, a unanimous resolution was passed by the legislators in the last Assembly, who felt imperative to safeguard special constitutional privilege of article 371 (A) with regard to rights of the Nagas in respect of the land and its resources.
On municipal and town council elections, Imchen said there was another constitutional aspect in regard to women reservation in such elections, and that Naga people were required to speak out their opinion in consonance with the provision of the constitution.
He also appealed all the legislators specially of the present house, all political parties, tribal hohos, Naga Hoho, ENPO, NMA, ENWO, NSF, ENSF etc. to come and present their “valuable and considered opinion”, to bring a concretized resolution on these issues.
He said government was of the opinion that a consensus opinion has to be put in place so that there was no “divergent views” on the policy in this vital aspect.
