Manipur developing infrastructure on NH 53

In the backdrop of frequent disturbances on Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39, Manipur government is in the favour of developing infrastructure to open the Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-53.
The Manipur government is determined to develop infrastructure like accommodation centre for inter-state travelers, parking places, godowns and Manipur Bhavan at Silchar Assam, the first destination point of the travelers from Manipur on the NH-53. Officials said that government has approved a proposal for purchase of land for the Bhavan.
Twenty-four Bighas of land presently occupied by three individuals on the side of the NH-53 near Silchar town at Rongpur-II is available for purchase and the land owners were ready to offer the land to the state government.
Manipur government had chalked out various other plans for development of infrastructure at Jiribam and Silchar connecting Imphal via NH-53 which includes construction of FCI godowns near Jiribam railway station, development of vehicle parking place in Silchar and others.
State PWD department is also assisting the road improvement works of the NH-53.
Meanwhile, Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC), was also extending co-operation in the road improvement work undertaken on the NH-53.
Trucks under TDC were carrying boulders used in the making of the road free of cost.
"We are still stick to our decision not to ply on NH-39. We are extending our full co-operation to BRO and PWD towards the work for improvement of highway," a member of TDC told this correspondent when contacted.
