Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Kiyanilie Peseyie accompanied by secretary Nagaland, A.E. Lotha attended the 56th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) conference at Nairobi, Kenya held under the theme ‘Parliament and Development in the 21st Century: thus far and beyond’.
According to an official bulletin, the official opening of the Conference 2010 was graced by president and commander-in-chief of the defence force, Republic of Kenya, His Excellency, Mwai Kibaki at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre on September 14. In the weeklong conference, important and relevant topics were deliberated to acquaint the parliamentarians of their roles in different situation. Topics discussed during the various sessions included roles of parliamentarians in natural disaster management, facilitating grassroots projects, in the protection of migrant workers and global water and food crises, energy and environment: Achieving sustainable development, parliament, accountability and the role of internet governance in strengthening oversight, enhancing participation of women in decision making process.
Nagaland Assembly Secretariat sources informed that around 2500 delegates representing 56 Commonwealth Countries attended the CPA Conference.
The 57th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference 2011 would be held in London U.K at the House of Parliament from July 21 to 28, 2011.
