Four arrested for abduction

Four persons including a hardcore criminal claiming to be from NSCN (I-M), were arrested by Dimapur police for abducting a 14-year-old boy on September 30. Among the four accused, Subin Mondal, a ‘ss’ 2nd Lieutenant of NSCN (I-M), was found to be involved in various criminal cases and had even jumped bail in the abduction and murder of businessman Prasenjit Dhar (Paul).
Informing about the case, SDPO Dimapur Shouka Kakheto said that the victim was abducted by one of the neighbours on September 30 from Golaghat road but released on October 3 by his captors. Police said that a ransom of `5 lakh was initially demanded from the victim’s father (a driver) but it was not confirmed whether any ransom was paid.
Upon his release, the victim disclosed the identity of his captors to the police leading to the arrest of Saju Das, Babu Dey, Ramesh Shankar and ‘ss’ 2nd lieutenant of NSCN (I-M) Subin Mondal from various locations. A .32 pistol alongwith four live rounds of ammunition was also recovered from their possession.
Describing Sobin Mondal as a hard core criminal who clams to be from the NSCN (I-M), police informed that he was involved in two other abduction cases and one case under arms act. Based on his statement, police also disclosed that Mondal was involved in the abduction and murder of Sanjay Das whose body was recovered from Chathe River on August 11 last.
Meanwhile, the SDPO Dimapur appealed to the public to report any incident especially abduction cases to the police. Admitting that there were numerous abduction cases going unreported, he claimed that almost all cases reported to the police were solved. He also pointed out that the abductors in most cases were non-locals although not ruling out the involvement of local people.
