Shillong Raj Bhavan to celebrate birthday of centurions

In a unique move, Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary today announced that beginning next month, Raj Bhavan will celebrate the birthday of citizens who complete their centenary year..
“I will invite anyone who attains the age of 100 years to celebrate his or her birthday at the Raj Bhavan,” Meghalaya Governor R.S Mooshahary announced Wednesday.
The Governor, who inaugurated a two-day exhibition on Meghalaya’s indigenous resources – “indigenous yours” believes that people in the northeastern region lives longer because of the eating food habits.
“There is something in our food culture that makes people’s live longer here,” Mooshahary, a tribal Bodo himself from Assam said.
The richness of indigenous rich cuisine, the governor said, is mainly due the result from the biodiversity that exists and is closely intertwined with traditions and cultures of the people.
Horticulture Director C.O Rangad said the exhibition of indigenous aims at highlighting the rich biodiversity that exists in Meghalaya.
“There are certain and unique crops in the state like the Lakadong turmeric, 540 species of plants 340 genera of plants and 31 families of flowering plants and herbs in the state which needs to be preserved,” Mooshahary said.
The governor also urged the civil society to build an awareness to adopt a scientific mining in the state to ensure the landscapes with important bio-diversity are not disturbed.
Horticulture Director C.O Rangad said the exhibition of indigenous aims at highlighting the rich biodiversity that exists in Meghalaya.
