Mental health problem on the rise in Manipur

The World Mental Health Day was observed in Manipur by various organisations with the main state level function organised by the Manipur Mental Health Authority in association with All Manipur Nupi Marup, Sunday.
Health and Family Welfare minister, Ph Parijat pointed out that number of mental health related problems in insurgency affected Manipur has been on the rise.
Observing that only doctors alone is not enough control this problem, the health minister said that people need to understand the problem by not shying away to get treatment.
He said the problem is not the money which many people have to cough out with a great relive, but the mental turmoil and fear psychosis.
RIMS Superintendent Y Mohen opined that the time has come for relevant experts to do detail study on the impacts/sufferings caused to mental health as no proper research till date on the ailments/sufferings caused by the insurgency movement to the mental health of the people.
He further observed that the insurgency movement has been inflicting mental sufferings on all sections of the society including children. Dr Motilal observed that apart from the existing conflict situation, abuse of drug and alcohol is another root cause of increasing number of mental disorders in Manipur.
