Training held for forest department field staff

A awareness program on nursery raising, plantation and sustainable management of bamboos; uses of medicinal and aromatic plants in Nagaland sponsored by RFRI under extension program of Van Vigyan Kendra (VVK) Jorhat; organized by State Silvicultuist Nagaland was held October 26 and 27 at Chiephobozou and October 28 and 29 at Viswema.
The program was exclusively held for field staff of forest department at the level of foresters, forest guards, NGOs, JFMC members.
Altogether 45 staff participated. Resource persons deliberated on how to raise bamboo seedlings in the nursery, plantation, and managing diseases, harvesting, preservation, value addition and utilization of various bamboos; uses of medicinal and herbal plants in Nagaland, use of GPS in forestry survey and map plotting.
The resource persons included Dr. R. K. Kalita, Scientist ‘C’ & Head, BIK Div. RFRI Jorhat- Bamboo, Dr. T. C. Bhuyan, research officer RFRI Jorhat- Bamboo, Supongnukshi IFS, DFO Wokha – Global Positioning System (GPS), K. Caroline, Silviculturist, Nagaland Kohima (Wildlife and biodiversity) and Limasenba Jamir, researcher (Medicinal herbs and uses).
