With the success of quality mat supply from Anaki cluster, the demand in bamboo mat by other companies apart from APIL has also increased.
A number of mat making trainings have been conducted within the state under the aegis of Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) so far, with great success.
Observing the enthusiasm of the people of Aboi area under Mon district for mat weaving, a one day training-cum-mat making demonstration was conducted at Aboi town hall on November 4 where mat weavers of six villages, i.e, Chinglong, Apao, Langmeing, Apao Changle, Sowa Changle and Aboi were trained by the mat making experts of Aitlenden under Tuli mat making cluster.
The training programme was coordinated by ADC, Aboi. It is observed that, out of the total of 52 participants, 95% of the trainees were experts in mat weaving and sliver making.
The training was successfully conducted with the assurance from the six villages to start mat making as their main part-time activity. Consequently, the need for forming, mobilizing and training of more cluster villages in the line of mat weaving has become essential.
NBDA official in a press release informed that the agency would be conducting follow up programme after two weeks time.
