Karbi Anglong Hindi Bhasi Chhatra Sanstha and Karbi Anglong Hindi Bhasi Sanstha have called for a 24-hour Karbi Anglong district bandh on Monday after violence erupted in Kheroni area Nov 6, following a spat between a Hindi speaking lady shopkeeper of an electronic outlet and a customer.
Sources said the brawl took place following sale and purchase of one DTH service recharge coupon. Although the matter was resolved amicably between the two, the matter took a serious turn when one Bikram Terang, accompanying the customer, impeded the matter and allegedly misbehaved with the shopkeeper, identified as Seema Gupta. Sources said that on the instigation of Terang, few Karbi youths gathered and began to communalize the issue.
Subsequently, a group of volatile villagers ransacked the shop and assaulted the shopkeeper and her family members, who were later admitted to HAM Memorial hospital Hojai, sources added.
