Training on food processing benefits Naga youth

A two-week long training programme on entrepreneurship and skill development on food/fruit processing for unemployed youth started on October 27 at Medziphema.
The training was conducted by North Eastern Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organization Ltd (NEITCO), Guwahati and sponsored by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Govt. of India Enterprise, under its Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme for unemployed youth with inherent entrepreneurial traits to set up self-employed venture as means of their livelihood option and within age group of 18 to 35 years.
Altogether, 25 participants including 15 women and 10 males took part in the training which focused mainly on two aspects – entrepreneurship and skill development as they are taught the basic technical ideas to make eight products including pickles, squash, jelly and jam, vegetable and spices preservation and packaging, etc. The trainees also interacted with representatives, consultants from DIC, MSMEs, bank, KVIC, KVIB, etc., for business guidance.
The training was conducted under the guidance of Khrielie Pesayi, Sr Food technologist, Directorate of Food and Industries.
The trainees were also paid `200 each per week as pocket expenses and were given a set of tool kits each required for making products at home after completion of the training. Seyievikho (22), a class 10 pass youth from Phephima said “I have gained the basic knowledge and I am positive to make a living in my life after attending the programme” and another trainee, Sentsulo from Medziphema expressed satisfaction about the programme.
