Reacting to a news item that appeared in a local daily on November 10, where Socialist Janata Party (SJP) national vice president criticized Lok Sabha MP C.M. Chang for saying he gets less chance to speak for Nagas at the parliament as he represented small regional party, the MP’s press secretary Timir Choudhury on Wednesday clarified that the procedure followed in the parliament was such that the time allotted to a political party depended on the strength of the party in the floor of the House. “Being the lone Lok Sabha MP from the state and not forgetting other states with small number of seats, it is very rare that one will get the opportunity to raise issues in the Parliament,” Choudhury said in a rejoinder issued here. Defending Chang, Choudhury said just because the MP mentioned a fact did not mean that he should resign. He said members from smaller parties make lobby to pursue issues facing their respective states and take up the matter with the responsible ministries.
