USDP sweeps Myanmar polls

Myanmar’s Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) secured a majority of seats in both houses of Parliament, the latest official results from the country’s first election in 20 years showed. The partial batch of results released Thursday confirmed the victory of the USDP in Sunday’s vote, the AP reported. Meanwhile, talking to this reporter over the phone, the Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) vice president Mankat said UPDS candidates of Naga inhabited areas including Nyaku and Col (retd) Ru San Chu have won the seats uncontested with public support. The election result was declared at 8 p.m. through government-run television station Myanmar TV 4 (MRTV4), the ENSA leader said.
