A Tata Magic transporting people attending public meeting on Sonia’s visit was torched by two unknown youths along the Imphal-Kangchup road.
According to a police report, the youths hurled a petrol bomb and torched the vehicle bearing registration number MN01W-9236 at about 3.40 pm.
Normal life in Manipur was crippled today owing to the 15-hour general strike called by 17 civil organisations in protest against central government remaining silent with regard to the reported arrest of UNLF chairman, RK Meghen alias Sanayaima in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Streets in Imphal wore a deserted look. Shops and business establishments remained closed for the day.
Meanwhile, miscreants suspected to be militants looted a freight truck (MN02-6946) near Bim Parou village along the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 this evening.
According to a report, documents of the freight trucks loaded with grocery items and mobile set of the driver were looted by the miscreants.
