Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio Friday communicated “warmest greetings” to the Sumi community on the occasion of “Ahuna” – the post-harvest festival of Sumis. “Ahuna, which is celebrated to signify the thanksgiving for the season’s harvest, while at the same time invoking the spirit for good fortune for the New Year, is truly a most befitting occasion where the entire community should prepare and feast on the first meal of rice-drawn from the season’s harvest cooked in bamboo segments; a customary practice of the Sumi community since time immemorial which is indeed praiseworthy,” Rio said in a message. The chief minister further expressed hope that this festival marked by jubilation, mirth and gaiety, with display of strong community spirit and bonding will continue to be observed with all its fervour in days ahead as have been since the days of the forefathers.
