DG Police K Kire on Friday asserted that any police personnel would be punished, if they were found guilty of using excessive force. Kire also said the PHQ was seriously looking at cases of alleged assault and will act on factual reports submitted. Meanwhile, residents of Senjum village Friday staged a protest in front of Dimapur SP’s office, demanding action against a police officer who allegedly assaulted one of its residents, Yamoni Tungoe, on the night of November 3. While demanding action on the culprit the women also wanted to see the police report to be submitted to the PHQ. It was learnt that Dimapur police will submit a report on the events that led to the November 3 incident. Speaking to this reporter over the phone, SP Dimapur Z Mero clarified that suspending Non-Gazetted Officers (NGOs) was beyond his powers and any action will have to be taken only by the PHQ based on the report submitted. He also pointed out that procedures would have to be followed before taking any action.
