National Education Day was celebrated at Sainik School Punglwa on November 11 to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the First Indian Union Education Minister.
Various events were organised throughout the day starting from morning assembly where book review on two books was presented by the staff of the school followed by speech on ‘Adult Education and Democracy’, ‘Life of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’, ‘Life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’ and ‘Right to Education (RTE)’ by the senior cadets of all the four houses.
On the occasion, paragraph writing competition for class VI & VII and essay writing competition for class VIII, IX and X on educational topics were also organised. Inter-house creativity contest held in the afternoon was witnessed by Col Neeraj Shukla, SM**, the Commanding Officer, 20 Assam Rifles, as the chief guest accompanied by his wife.
Team efforts put in by the cadets to create miniature traditional Naga huts and creative models, all made of natural things to convey a message of goodwill was whole heartedly appreciated by the chief guest.
He also motivated cadets to preserve their traditions and culture saying that Naga culture is very closely associated with nature and is the best in the country. This also reminded him of traditional Naga houses and their hospitality which he experienced during his service days at Tuensang during 1994-95. Doyang House was adjudged the best in creativity and was handed over the Creativity Trophy for 2010 by the chief guest.
