Protests against militants in Imphal

Normal working at Manipur University Engineering Cell and state electricity department were disturbed Monday as employees of the two offices ceased work for the day and staged anti-militants sit-in protests.
The protests were staged at their respective office premises.
Employees of the MU Engineering Cell were protesting against the kidnap of a section officer of the Engineering Cell, Thongam Dolal of Khongman Zone-V by suspected PREPAK cadres on November 11 in connection with a demand of Rs 60 lakh from the office.
Strongly criticizing the act of the militants, the agitating employees appealed to the militants not to impose such heavy monetary demand and also urged to let them work freely. They further lamented that frequent disturbances by militants had been hampering in taking up developmental works in the only University in the state.
Meanwhile, employees of the state electricity department staged a protest against militants’ frequent target to engineers and officials of the department lamenting that their workings had been greatly disturbed by the unending pressure of militants. They also strongly condemned the attack at the residence of an executive engineer of the department, Muhindro at Uripok Polem Leikai in Imphal west on last Saturday.
This was the latest incident, such kind of attacks had been launched for many times at the houses of the engineers and officials of the department, employees taking part in the protest said.
