JJ Singh praises battle readiness of 17 MLI

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh today praised the battle-readiness, discipline and high standard of the Maratha Light Infantry (MLI).
Speaking on MLI’s raising day celebration at Tenga in West Kameng district, Gen Singh, who is the honorary colonel of the regiment for life, said during World War II in Myebon peninsula, the battalion was awarded the ‘Battle Honour Ruywa’.
The battalion was re-raised at Belgaum on November 15, 1962 under command of Lt. Col (Maj Gen) E DSouza, PVSM (Retd).
‘’After your re-raising in 1962, you have continued the rich tradition in 1965 and 1971 wars. In ‘operations Pawan’ and ‘Parakram’, you displayed yourself as the premier and capable unit,’’ he added.
Battalions commanding officer Col Ashish Thakur, officiating subedar major Suresh Bhonsle and the troops were present.
In order to have cordial relations with denizens of the area, since it was stationed in the district, the 17 MLI had undertaken numerous initiatives, including know your army mela showcasing arms and equipment besides their practical demonstrations, official sources added.
