Trucks to ply normally

Bokajan truck owners’ association (BTOA) and Dimapur motor workers’ trade union (DMWTU) have resolved to let the trucks ply normally, provided Dimapur district administration offer security to drivers, handymen, vehicles and hoarding of materials. This decision was unanimously adopted during a joint meeting of BTOA and DMWTU held Monday, BTOA president Mukul Borah and DMWTU president L.Ghoshito Sema stated in a statement. BTOA had decided to boycott Nagaland following October 22 incident, where one handyman was kidnapped allegedly by a group of local boys, when the truck had gone to offload consignment at a godown in Sematilla locality. The victim was later released after Rs.10, 000 ransom was paid to kidnappers. According to the statement, the two transport associations, in the meeting, condemned the Oct 22 incident and finally resolved that DMWTU members would approach Dimapur district administration for ensuring safety of life and property of the transport operators and workers.
