Mon-Namtola road in shambles

Mon-Namtola road (State Highway No.3), the lifeline of Mon district remains in a pitiable condition, unattended and neglected for long.
The road, which was supposed to be widened and reconstructed before the 2010 state road show at Mon, is inundated with water.
The construction, which began promisingly, came to a halt in the midway after Konyak students’ union complained of using shoddy stones for road construction, which the contractors denied.
Despite the fact that corers of rupees were adjusted for construction of Mon-Namtola road, the road remained at its worst.
The road is in such a dismal state that it takes about two and half hours of bumpy ride for light vehicles just to travel 44 kms stretch.
With such road conditions, the prices of essentials would naturally skyrocket along with increase in transportation fares, causing undue hardship to common people. Even at its best, no VIPs want to take the route to come to Mon for any official purposes but the road condition now speaks volume.
About 3-4 places along the highway needed urgent attention-- construction of culverts. Otherwise, Mon would be completely cut off from the outside world because the only alternative route, which would have been via Tamlu - Mokokchung (inter state route) is now a history.
