Mnp asks MHA on whereabouts of UNLF chief

Manipur government Tuesday formally asked the centre to confirm whereabouts of RK Meghen alias Sanayaima, the chairman of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF), who was reportedly arrested in Bangladesh.
Manipur chief secretary, DS Poonia and DGP, Y Joykumar brought up the matter with the Union Home Ministry today while seeking for deployment of additional force during UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi’s visit in state, an official source said.
The chief secretary and DGP held a meeting with the officials of the MHA including Home Secretary today and urged for central government’s initiative to trace out the present position of Sanayaima.
Meanwhile, Manipur state home department was considering of arranging 5000 manpower for security purpose during Sonia’s visit by calling out 18 companies of Armed Manipur Rifles and IRB to make a total strength of 1500 and another 1500 unarmed force personnel from Home Guard and Village Defense Force (VDF).
Miltants throw grenades
Militants hurled grenades at an outlet of a liquified petroleum gas agency and the residences of a government contractor and a retired official in Manipur, but no one was hurt.
Militants threw a grenade at the Misao Gas Agency at Chingmeirong in the outskirts of Imphal at around 10:30 am but it did not explode, police sources said. The grenade was defused. This was the third time that the outlet was attacked. The sources said that failure to pay extortion could be the reason for the grenade being hurled.
Militants also hurled grenades at the residence of a government contractor and a retired official last night. Two grenades exploded at the residence of the contractor Meitream Kesho who was at home at the time, at Lamsang area in Imphal West district.
Another grenade exploded at the home of retired executive engineer of the Public Works Department, Salam Biren at Keisampat Thiyam Leikai area in the same district, the sources said. Militant outfits have been attacking the houses of contractors, officials and businessmen almost every day for the past few months to demand extortion.
