True to its motto “One Struggle, One Goal” Naga Students’ Union, Bangalore (NSUB) organized the first National Conference for the Naga Students’ Unions planted outside Nagaland and Manipur.
On the arrival of the delegates, a welcome dinner was hosted at Tyrannus Hall which was attended by the leaders of the existing tribal bodies and the executives of Naga Christian Fellowship, Bangalore (NCFB) as well. On the second day, a full day conference was held at SAIACS CEO centre which was attended by the Naga Students’ Unions of Ahmednagar, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, the host Bangalore and senior students from the Naga community Hyderabad. The guests of the conference were NSF finance secretary Kapani Krichena and executives of NCFB. Moderators of the event were Aran A Chihui, president NSUB, Chongphe Angh, president NSUP and Ela Susan James from the Conference Planning Committee. Altogether 45 delegates attended the “Confluence 2008”. Bringing the event to a firm start was Aran A.Chihui President NSUB giving an insight to the need of organising “Confluence 2008”.
He challenged his counterparts with the words “The journey has begun, nothing should stop us from achieving, nothing should stop this journey”, followed by greetings by Kapani Krichena on behalf of NSF.
Zhabu Yimsung, Pastor NCFB, and Rev. Niu Vihienuo, Advisor NSUB urged the delegates to live up to the “Expectations” of the society as leaders and take the road less traveled. The second session was set into motion with “Best Practice Sharing” wherein all the union leaders delivered reports on how each union functions.
Making the most of this conference was the discussion of agendas where the leaders analyzed and dissected the existing problems faced by the students.
The discussion was stressed on the rigid marking system of the educational board back home, the late declaration of results leaving the students in a lurch. Emphasis was also laid on the importance of providing admission assistance to Naga students vying for colleges in the cities.
Realizing the importance of having a conference like this to voice opinions and share desires, a steering committee was formed for a tenure of one year with Aran A Chihui president NSUB as the convener, Thejasenuo Meyase, president NSUD as the co-convener and Chongphe Angh, president NSUP as the secretary .
The conference came to a close with a vote of thanks by president NSUB .Aran in his speech acknowledged the generosity of all the donors viz Mr. & Mrs. Sorei Raman, Richard Belho, T K Peseyie and family, Mani Charenamei MP, Bendangnukshi Longkumer and Dr. Vilar Solo who made the event possible, while benediction was offered by Lipok Jamir, secretary NCFB.
