State PWD (R&B) has controverted to a news report “Mon-Namtola road in shambles”, published in this daily October 27, particularly to a claim that crores of rupees were adjusted for construction of Mon-Namtola road.
Nagaland PWD (R&B) chief engineer, in a clarification issued Friday, said the report of spending crores of rupees were incorrect as the department did not receive any funds for the road.
The chief engineer further clarified said that improvement works of the road was initiated without any sanction and that work orders were issued to contractors in anticipation of sanction and funds.
Stating that works got underway during March last, the chief engineer however said that works were suspended due to “some reasons of miscommunication”, which, he pointed out was later resolved and works were set to resume immediately after rainy season.
Meanwhile, the department has also expressed concern over deteriorating road conditions in the state and Mon-Namtola road in particular.
The chief engineer said that though the department was making all efforts to repair and maintain the roads not much tangible results could be shown immediately.
