At least 26 cases of unauthorized selling of petrol and diesel were registered in police stations across two districts of Imphal in three days as drive against black fuel marketers being ntensified.
Police intensified drive against illegal selling and unauthorized hoarding of petroleum products in Manipur after Union Ministry of Home Affairs noted the prolonged scarcity of the items in the state. Officials of MHA had even conducted drive against the black marketers recently in Imphal.
A police source said that police stations across the two districts of Imphal west and east were conducting drive against such illegal practices for the past two weeks and so far 26 cases were registered from October 28 to 30. Around, 37 litre of petrol, 604 litre of diesel and 169 litre of kerosene were recovered from the 26 persons.
Meanwhile, a police commando was killed in a road accident on Sunday at North AOC, Imphal.
According to a police report, the deceased identified as Bijoy Tarou head constable of New Chekon, Imphal was knocked down by the truck bearing registration no. MN04A-2854 while he was on duty. He succumbed to his injury at the spot.
Police seized the truck along with the driver after registering a case in the Imphal police station.
In another unrelated incident, a couple had to take back their newly born baby which they attempted to throw away. Police had registered a case against them.
Moirangthem Robert Singh (33) of Moirang Bazar Maning Moirangthem Leikai and his wife Sonibala (30) tried to abandon their newly born baby on the roadside near the RIMS gate at about 8 pm last night.
The baby was found on the roadside by one Th Nogen Singh (43) of Jiribam Sorok Atingbi residing at RIMS quarter and his wife. Meanwhile, after proper verification the baby was handed over to the parents.
