Meghalaya Tribal Students Coordination Committee (MTSCC) will resume its indefinite shutdown from Monday to mount pressure on the union human resource development (HRD) ministry for the removal of A.N. Rai as vice-chancellor of North Eastern Hill University and instead appoint a local academician to the post. “As a mark of protest against the adamant attitude of the centre on our demand to remove Prof Rai from the post of vice chancellor we have decided to resume with our indefinite shutdown at Nehu from Monday to put pressure on the centre to comply to our demand,” Kynpham Kharlyngdoh, chairman of the Coordination Committee, said.
The Coordination Committee under, the banner of NEHU Students Union (NEHUSU) and Meghalaya Tribal Students Coordination Committee (MTSCC), want a tribal vice chancellor to head the varsity. MHRD team also visited the state and said that a report has been submitted to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Oct 28.
