A 24-hour bandh on November 2, called by various organizations of Hindi speaking community of Karbi Anglong district, has been withdrawn after the intervention of Karbi student’s association (KSA) and other socio political bodies, a Diphu-based cable TV channel quoted local sources as saying. Hindi speaking organization had called for bandh in protest against the assault on three Bihari women and destroying their houses at Pan Ebgti gaon village of Howraghat October 31 last. According to information, villagers attacked the house of Urmila Sahu (70), where Radhika Sahu (28) and Gayetri Sahu also reside. The victims later alleged that villagers carried out the attack on the instigation of a village quack (medicine man). This quack hoodwinked the villagers by claiming that three women practiced witchcraft. Meanwhile. NH-36 near Bokulia on Monday was blocked for several hours in protest against the incident.
