Ad hoc Coordination Committee Owners, Drivers and Motor Workers’ Union has appealed to the union government and state governments of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur to compensate the losses suffered by vehicle owners, whose vehicles were torched during prolonged bandhs along NH-39 by various organisations of three states. The committee also appealed to the governments to compensate for the loss of lives of innocent public during blockades. It was decided in a meeting of Ad hoc Coordination Committee Owners, Drivers and Motor Workers’ Union of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur October 31 at Dimapur, a statement issued by committee convenor Monohar Singh said.
According to ad hoc coordination committee due to prolonged bandhs and economic blockades along NH-39 transport vehicles incurred huge fuel costs as they were compelled to take NH-53 covering long distances. The committee also urged the state governments to ensure that NH-39 - lifeline for three states - was always kept open for smooth transportation.
