Strongly opposing the creation of ‘Saramati Region’ by the NSCN (I-M), the Pungro public on Wednesday flushed out NSCN (I-M) activists from Pungro town, which falls under the ‘Saramati Region.’
According to sources, the Pungro public started the flush out after the NSCN (I-M) authority of the ‘Saramati Region’ forcibly collected tax from shops and vehicles. It may be mentioned that the general public of Pungro had earlier resolved not to cooperate or pay any kind of taxation towards the ‘Saramati region’ but to remain, cooperate and extend unflinching support only to the Yimchungru region.
During the public strike, the agitated mob recovered two files of ‘Saramati Region’ from the residence of Khonju VCC, which were later handed over to the JC Battalion by GB’s union office bearers and Public Forum Pungro Sub- Division (PFPSD) office bearers.
The PFPSD and GB’s Union Pungro Town, reminded that on May 27, the GB’s union had resolved not to stay with the Saramati region in Pungro area. The two organizations had on October 29 met Tosangchu, care taker of ‘Saramati Region’ and told him not to collect any taxation within its jurisdiction. The two organizations said that the ‘Saramati Region,’ however, failed to heed the demand of the public and started collecting taxes on shops and vehicles. “Therefore, the Pungro town public strike has begun in the areas to flush out the Saramati region,” the PFPSD and GB’s Union Pungro Town stated.
