Village chief shot dead in Chandel

A village chief was shot dead in Manipur’s interior Chandel district bordering Myanmar, a delayed official report said today. The report from the district said chief of Moljol hill village, Ngamkholet Baite (56), was gunned down by two suspected Kuki militants in front of his wife, Linnei Baite at Teibijang area under Chakpikarong police station while returning to their home from their paddy field on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, five officials of PHED were kidnapped by armed cadres KCP from Senapati’s Mayangkhang village on Saturday. The kidnapped officers were identified as H Ganeshwor (Asst Engineer), K Rameshwor (Asst Engineer) (Surveyor of Work) , K Manigopal (SO) and A Ibomcha (Driver).
Further, KCP (MC) claimed that the officials were in their custody and warned that if higher authority of the PHED do not come for negotiation they would be punished after a ‘fair trial’.
