Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata group, on Friday said a smokescreen was being sought to be created over the reality of the 2G scam, which was about allotment of spectrum.
Speaking for the first time after the scam claimed A Raja’s job as telecom minister, Tata told NDTV the government should “stop this sort of banana republic kind of attacks on whoever one chooses to attack on an unsubstantiated basis.’’ Every person had a right to be considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law, he said, adding that the government shouldn’t misuse its phone-tapping powers.
According to Times news, Tata said the country seemed to have slipped into a “morass of allegations... unauthorised tapes flooding... the media going crazy on alleging, convicting, executing... literally character assassination”.
