Vehemently condemning the abduction of Hariram Gupta by unidentified criminals on November 25 in Dimapur town, the NPCC has also renewed its attack on the NPF-led DAN government for failure to effect the law and order situation in the state.
NPCC president, S. I. Jamir in a statement said extortion and illegal tax collections have affected every citizen and that it was the consumers who have to ultimately bear the consequences of direct/indirect taxation and extortion.
Stating that the law and order has totally collapsed especially in Dimapur, the NPCC said, “The law and order problem in Dimapur is grievous that could no longer be treated as an isolated case. The public had resented, condemned and expressed anger. It is a clear sign of breakdown in constitutional machinery,” Jamir said.
Stating that a government that has failed to protect its citizens has lost all moral rights to continue, the NPCC said that the chief minister, Neiphiu Rio and home minister Imkong L. Imchen should own moral responsibility and step down.
It was stated that the non-Naga residents of Nagaland, especially those residing in Dimapur have become most vulnerable soft targets of criminals and that the NPF-led DAN government had failed to protect the lives and properties of this group of people.
The NPCC said it was high time that non-Naga residents of Nagaland bring the cases of crimes perpetrated against them to the notice of the government of India.
Jamir said that the Congress as a responsible political party would no longer remain a silent spectator but protect the citizens by taking appropriate actions with all resources available at its disposal.
