The week long training programme for progressive mithun farmers started on November 22 NRC on Mithun to disseminate the scientific know how developed by the institute.
The programme inaugurated by Dr. C. Rajkhowa, director, national research centre on Mithun, Jharnapani is being sponsored by NABARD, Dimapur and organized by national research centre on mithun, ICAR.
A group of 25 progressive mithun farmers representing different districts of Nagaland state Phek, Kohima, Zunheboto, Peren, Longleng and Kiphire participated in the programme. The farmers would be imparted training on both theoretical and practical aspects of scientific mithun farming during the training.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. R. K. Singh, programme coordinator, KVK Phek applauded the initiative taken by NABARD to financially assist such training programme that has direct impact on socio-economic status of tribal mithun farmers. Dr. K.C. Das, Dr. S. Mukharjee and Dr. M. Mondal also interacted with farmers and briefed about various technologies developed by the institute.
Some farmers from Zunheboto and Peren expressed the problem faced by them recently and informed the house about the huge loss incurred due to death of about 100 and 45 mithuns in their respective villages. The farmers in this regard requested the director NRC mithun to take up health care activities in their villages.
