State Nodal Department (Agriculture) in collaboration with EEI, AAU Jorhat organized a three day state level training on bio-pesticides and pest management at SAMETI Hall, IETC Medziphema from November 25.
The training started with an inaugural function with professor Alemla NU SASRD as the chief guest. She stressed on how sustainable agriculture and organic farming are integrated where the need and role of bio-pesticides and bio-control agents arises. She urged the participants to be dedicated and sincere in their duties and to take their knowledge to the field.
Dr. D.K Bora and Dr. Saikia both Principal Scientist, Department of Entomology, AAU Jorhat were the resource persons for the training. In his keynote address, Dr.Bora stressed on the harmful effects of chemical pest control that led to exploration of several viable alternative like bio-pesticides.
Altogether 26 field functionaries from different districts in the state attended the training. During the training, important topics like bio-pesticides umbrella, production and use of Trichogrammatid egg parasitoids, production and use of Chrysopid predators, botanical pesticides, and some other potential eco-friendly pesticides were discussed.
The training ended with valedictory function which was chaired by the Principal IETC Lanupokyim. Sharing and feed backs from the participants and speeches by both the resource persons was the highlight of the training. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Benjamin Kikon, officer in-charge bio-fertilizer IETC Medziphema.
