A private firm (PABSCON), undertaking two-lane RCC Bridge over a tributary of Dhansiri River, has been issued ultimatum by the Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) urging the firm for early bridge completion.
“The WSSU wants the bridge to be completed at the earliest time, hence, urges your company to restart the construction works on or before December 15, 2010 without fail,” a WSSU letter addressed to PABSCON Company stated Monday.
The student body cautioned that it would initiate its own course, deemed fit, in the public interest, if the company failed to comply with its appeal.
Expressing deep concern over the delay in completion of the bridge project, the Sumi student body said the incomplete bridge between Zukihe and Shozukhu villages, Khaghaboto area, which fell under its jurisdiction, was causing further hardships to the general mass living beyond the river.
“The WSSU is disheartened by the dereliction of works by your firm that undertook construction which was scheduled to be completed within 24 months (2007-2009),” the letter stated.
The students added that even after considerable lapse of time the bridge was far from completion.
Underscoring that it did not believe in “blame game” which would further delay construction and bolster public sufferings, the WSSU urged the company to resume work at the earliest.
