Standoff between Mkg villages defused

Tensed situation in Mokokchung district that could have enlarged the conflict between Waromung and Dibuia villages was defused Tuesday following the intervention of district administration and police. On Monday three villagers, one from Dibuia village and two from Waromung village, were injured in gunfire after an altercation over an issue between the two villages. Giving details about the incident, the district authorities Tuesday said that apparently Dibuia village had earlier issued an order banning hunting, fishing and trespassing in village jurisdiction. However, some people from other area defying the village order, was found collecting bamboo in the village jurisdiction. Subsequently, the Dibuia village youths were deputed to keep vigil on village boundary. In the process, the village volunteers caught one Waromung villager and detained him. On learning about the incident, the Waromung village also mobilized their people leading to the capture of three Dibuia villagers. On Tuesday district authorities had meeting with two village councils and brought the flaring situation under control, authorities said.
