Congress has demanded that the chief minister replace Imkong L. Imchen as home minister with another competent person in order to guarantee security to their lives and properties of the citizens.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee media cell chairman Dr.K.Hoshi while reacting to the statement made by home minister Imkong L.Imchen who expressed inability of the state government in checking collection of money by underground factions.
It said as a responsible opposition, the Congress expressed people’s sentiments but Imchen’s reaction was “humanly unimaginable” as he “could make fun of people’ sufferings” against the backdrop of the protest bandh in Dimapur by the business community.
The NPCC said Imchen’s statement exposed the total failure of the DAN government and also the nadir he has reached by his incapability to shoulder the responsibility of home minister.
Slamming the minister, the NPCC said if the DAN government was “ as helpless as that” then it should hand over the resins of the state to the “underground governments and allow the public to seek security from them.”
The NPCC asserted that Imchen should have read the cease fire ground rules before making “such careless utterances” that seem to indicate a relapse into his “foot-in-the-mouth syndrome”.
Hoshi said while the Naga political problem was an entirely different issue outside the state subject; but as home minister, Imchen was responsible for maintenance of law and order and containing crimes in the state.
The NPCC said Imchen only “made a fool of himself” by pretending he alone knew how to run the state and that the Congress knew nothing about governance.
On Imchen’s statement , the NPCC said it was also an “open admission” why families of victims refused to share information that led to many cases going unreported and proof that people have lost “confidence in his administration and the NPF-led DAN government.”
Hoshi asked, why would people want to “risk their lives in the hands of a casual home minister?”
According to the NPCC, the DAN government was acting only on the basis of reported cases which clearly proved intelligence failure and the “random working mechanism”.
NPCC maintained that law and order was worsening and demanded to know from the home minister as to why people’s lives were being put to so much risk.
