District level orientation programme for resource persons on Saakshar Bharat organized by state resource centre Tripura in collaboration with SLMA Nagaland was held at DC’s conference hall Tuensang on November 27.
SLMA Kohima SO E. Moapong gave the keynote address on Saakshar Bharat and stated that the government of India selected 365 districts from all over India where female literacy rated below 50% as per 2010 census, and Mon and Tuensang districts were selected from Nagaland. He also informed that 85% of the programme was mainly for females and 15% for adult illiterate males, adding that the programme was being conducted to raise adult learners to the level of others.
The main aim of Saakshar Bharat is to enable people to read, write and do simple arithmetic, which is called 3RF, the SO said.
He also encouraged the gathering not to miss the opportunity to help each other to promote and strengthen adult learners with a vision for a better future, stated an official bulletin.
Earlier, welcome speech was delivered by DEO Tuensang Tohoshe Sema and short speeches were delivered by programme coordinator SRC Tripura Swapan Paul, directorate of school education Kohima assistant director Imnatola, and vote of thanks by supervisor Tuensang R. Likokmong. The programme was chaired by DC and chairman DLMA Tuensang Y.L. Jami.
