Irked by the lack of response from public health engineering department (PHED) to their two-point demand made November 15 last, the VK area public leaders have decided to call for an indefinite bandh on National Highway-61 (between Doyang Bridge and Izheto village) if their demand was not fulfilled by December 7.
VK area public leaders had earlier served a memorandum to the secretary PHED, demanding that all materials and accessories allotted for VK area water supply be transferred to the work site on or before November 27. The water project under NRDWP (CSS) is being undertaken for VK EAC headquarter and nine surrounding villages of VK Area.
The memo had also demanded PHED chief engineer to tender public apology for using “undemocratic language” and literally chasing the public leaders from his official residence.
A joint press release issued by VK Area GB’s Association (VKAGBA) chairman Nitoyi Assumi, secretary Kakiho Awomi, VK Range Students’ Union (VKRSU) president Amento Chishi and VK Area Youth Organisation (VKAYO) president Vikheshe Shohe stated that public of the area were anticipating positive action from the department as per the secretary PHED’s letter dated November 23 last.
The three bodies however alleged that PHED chief engineer has failed to respond to the same letter.
With regard to this, the three bodies cautioned that if the demands of area public were not met, they would be resorting to proceed with the indefinite bandh starting from December 7, 6 a.m. onwards.
While requesting all citizens to support their cause, the organizations stated that military, para-military, administration and medical emergency duty will be exempted from the bandh.
