Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has written an application to administrator Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) with regard to the order of the latter directing shops under the jurisdiction of MMC to open till 7pm during the month of December.
In a press note MCCI president, Lanukaba believed the order was issued hastily as MCCI had other tasks to tend to.
Lanukaba said the MCCI members were prepared to open their shops till 7pm or beyond, provided there was “ business to do”, and lamented there was no point in opening shops if there were no customers.
Further the MCCI requested MMC administrator to make necessary arrangements to ensure availability of buses and taxis for customers till 7pm.
In addition, MCCI also urged the administrator to arrange proper security and uninterrupted power supply so business is not hampered. Despite the order passed by MMC, there are still a few shops defying the order.
Shopkeepers also complained about irregular power supply thus prompting shops to shut down earlier than the stipulated time.
