By election to 26 Aonglenden A/C

Following the demise of Nungshizenba Longkumer, the sitting MLA representing 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency on November 28, the seat has fallen vacant. The Nagaland Assembly had already issued a notification declaring the seat as vacant.
Considerable speculations are doing the rounds that former Governor of Goa and Maharastra Dr. S.C. Jamir is being considered as a candidate. When asked about these speculations Dr. Jamir told Nagaland Post over phone Sunday, that he has no special interest to contest at this stage. He however confirmed that he had been approached to contest. Dr Jamir represented Aonglenden constituency in 1974,1982,1986,1988 and 2003 besides winning the byelection to the 25 Mongoya assembly constituency in 1971 and representing Mokokchung town constituency in 1989 and 1993.
Late Nungshizenba was elected from Aonglenden constituency in 1987, 1989,1 993, 1998 and 2008 till his demise. He was also elected unopposed to the Mokokchung town constituency in 1998.
