Fighting environmental pollution via chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma in collaboration with the principal office organized a one-day seminar on the topic ‘An overview of green chemistry and new drugs development’ with Dr. R.C Boruah FNASc, Scientist H, and Outstanding Scientist of CSIR NEIST Jorhat as resource person in the College Library Hall on December 6.
Seminar was attended by faculty members from all departments of the college and students. The resource person gave a detail power point presentation on the current issue related to green chemistry and new drugs development. Green Chemistry is a new trend in chemistry which emphasis on alternative pathways for prevention of environmental pollution. He urged all the participants to be conscious of the environmental pollution and its effect while taking up any study/research which is detrimental to the mankind.
He also gave a detail methodology involved in the development of new drugs for safe consumption of human beings. He encouraged the department as well as the college to organize more regional and national seminar by availing financial assistance from DST and UGC.
The Seminar was chaired by Dr. M. Longchar, HoD Chemistry dept, short speech was given by Principal Dr.Vituo Belho and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Tiakaba Jamir of Chemistry department.
