Governor, Nikhil Kumar and chief minister Neiphu Rio have extended best wishes to all ranks of the army, navy, air force and ex-servicemen and their families on the occasion of Armed Forces Day 2010 to be observed on Tuesday. Nikhil said the day was an occasion to pay homage to the gallant soldiers for their sacrifice in the defence of the country. He said that the occasion also reminded the need to reassure the servicemen, serving and retired and their dependents of the people’s genuine concern for their welfare and to express gratitude to them for their contribution to the country. Nikhil appealed all citizens to contribute generously towards the Armed Forces Flag Day fund which he said would go a long way in supplementing the efforts of the government for the welfare of the war widows, disable soldiers, ex-servicemen and their dependants. To mark the occasion, Rio said that the state government has issued token flags and car flags to all the departments and offices for distribution to citizens in return for voluntary contributions. He appealed to all for generous contributions.
