DIMAPUR: Amid preparations for Orange festival, scheduled to be held December 10-12 at Tamenglong, United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed apprehension over reports that Manipur chief minister, council of ministers and MLAs would be visiting the festival, stating it might disturb the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the hills.
A UNC publicity wing press release issued here Tuesday stated that the council, while encouraging the spirit of the festival, reminded the Zeliangrong community and Nagas, to uphold “Naga decision” and stop “unwanted persons” from inaugurating and participating in the festival, adding that such would “amount to re-terrorizing the tribals”.
UNC stated that it no longer welcomed the “communal” Manipur chief minister, and his council of ministers and MLAs in Naga areas of Manipur in any programme, as it has severed political ties with government of Manipur from July 1, 2010 at Tahamzam (Senapati).
