Roy took charge as new Assam Rifles chief

Lt. General Rameshwar Roy has taken charge as Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR), an official said today.
On arrival, the Lt.General was given a traditional Guard of Honour and he paid homage to the martyrs of the Force at the picturesque war memorial at HQ DGAR in Laitkor, Shillong. Lt General Roy was commissioned in the 7thBn The Jammu & Kashmir Rifles on 17 Jun 1973.
His distinguished career in the Indian Army, spanning over 37 years, has been a blend of professional and zealous soldiering, during which he has worked in varied command, staff and instructional appointments. These include command of a Battalion in the Chhamb Jaurian Sect, an infantry Brigade in Kashmir Valley and an Infantry Division at the Line of Control.
He has also served in Punjab (OP RAKSHAK), Mizoram, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh (OP FALCON). Before taking over as the DGAR the General was in the command of the prestigious 16 Corps in Nagrota (J&K). Lt General is an aluminous of Defence Services Staff College and has attended Higher Command Course. He is a fellow of National Defence College, New Delhi and has served as the Brigadier General Staff of a Corps in the Eastern Sector.
Luxmi Roy his wife President Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association (ARWWA) is an educationist and a social worker.
