Preparations for NE Agri Expo II

Hectic preparations are underway on war-footing for the 2nd North-East Agri Expo 2010 at the Northeast Regional Agri Expo Complex, 4th Mile Dimapur to be held from December 15 to 19.
Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) and principal secretary for agriculture, H. K. Khullu IAS has expressed confidence that the construction would be completed on time for the Agri Expo. He also expressed hope that the up-coming Expo would be more successful as there was better infrastructure now and have learnt more from previous Expo held in 2006. Khullu said that the up-coming Expo would have more follow-up on sellers and buyers meet, one to one producer-consumer meet, market summit, investors meet, educational/awareness programmes and new approaches for farmers, problem solving sessions, technology demonstrations, financial schemes for agriculture and agri-business field visits and others. He also said that many companies would be coming to participate with lots of technologies to improve productivity.
On the cost and yield, the APC disclosed that the overall cost for the event might come approximately at rupees six and half crores and added that the 2nd NE Agri Expo would be a useful experience not only for the state but for the entire Northeast region. He also said that the government was looking forward to open more opportunities for the farmers with a view to enhance the economy of the region especially through Agro based agencies.
The 2nd North-East Agri Expo 2010 with the theme “Prosperity through Agriculture” is hosted by the government of Nagaland in partnership with the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) and sponsored by the ministry of DONER/NEC and ministry of agriculture. The Mascot would be ‘Chaka’ the Mithun which is the embodiment of the North East collectively representing the free spirit and symbolizing the strength and perseverance of the people. The NE Agri Expo 2010 would witness participants from several countries including Italy and Bhutan, various ministries of the government of India, institution of ICAR, Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema, agricultural universities, agro based private agencies and all Northeastern states.
