The 24-hour bandh called by a group of KCP against Government of India’s false propaganda of arresting UNLF chairman from Motihari in Bihar, which commenced from 5 pm Tuesday concluded peacefully. While life in rural and hill areas remained normal, it came to standstill in Imphal area as long-distance and inter-district buses stayed off roads fearing attacks by strike supporters. Private vehicles, particularly light four-wheelers and two-wheelers were seen plying but transport and commercial vehicles were off road in Imphal city. All business establishments, shops and market places remained closed for the day. Attendance in most of offices in Imphal were low and schools remained closed.
However, reports from other districts of the state and rural areas said that except for inter-district and long distance transportation, life was normal. No untoward incidents were reported during the bandh.
The KCP (Malemnganba) group imposed the bandh protesting claims made by the government of India that UNLF chairman Meghen alas Sanayaima was arrested from Bihar while he was actually arrested from Bangladesh’s Dhaka.
The bandh did not get support from the UNLF.
