‘Elimination of violence against women’ in Mkg

Mokokchung district observed ‘fortnight observation on elimination of violence against women’ by organizing various activities.
President, Watsu Mungdang, Dr. Arenla Walling stated that radio talk through All India Radio Mokokchung, panel talk through Local T.V. Channel Mokokchung, distribution of leaflets on violence against women and girls were undertaken during the fortnight. Besides message from Chairperson of the Nagaland State women Commission was also distributed to all educational institutions.
It may be recalled that the two week long sustained activism protesting all forms of violence against women and girls was originated from the first Women’s global leadership Institute in 1991.
The date, 25 November which was officially recognized by the UN in 1999 as the International Day for elimination of violence against women to 10 December International Human rights Day were chosen in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights to emphasize that such violence were in violation of human rights.
