The RPG group power utility CESC Ltd plans to have 500 MW hydroelectric generation capacities through greenfield ventures or acquisitions in the North-East and North India in the next six years.
CESC announced its plan to build a 90 MW hydroelectric power project on the Siyom river in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The proposed INR 630 crore project, referred to as Jarong Hydro Electric project, has received the State Government’s approval for building a diversion dam on the Siyom and setting up the powerhouse near village Jarong.
Sanjiv Goenka vice chairman of CESC told mediaperson that “This is a run of the river scheme and will not involve any submergence of local habitation.” The company expects to get clearances from the Centre and achieve financial closure after 15 to 20 months.
The company proposes to offer 12% of the power to be generated from the project to the Arunachal Pradesh government, free of cost. The project would create substantial number of jobs for the local people.
