Parliamentary secretary rural development and REPA, Pangnyu Phom called upon VDBs to judiciously make use of RD schemes and maintain transparency in all developmental works, adding the VCC and VDBs have been given full authority for the development of the village.
Pangnyu was addressing the VDB members at the Peren district VDB conference at town hall, Peren as chief guest on Thursday.
He pointed out that it was time for Nagas to stand, speak and work on the principle of truth, and challenged the gathering to lead a truthful life and set an example for others to follow.
Expressing his disappointment at the VDBs in view of the fact that beneficiaries do not repay loans on time, he urged people to cultivate the value of banking for their own advantage by having a good rapport with Banks.
He also announced that another major scheme known as the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) would be introduced by the year 2011.
On the sidelines, he also expressed his happiness that Peren district had banned hunting of wild animals and hoped the villagers will follow the order in letter and spirit.
Most significantly, he made it clear that the money given for the implementation of RD schemes was not meant to be used for individual benefit regardless of political parties, Hohos, NGOs or factions.
In this regard, the VCC and VDBs were asked to take a serious note of the fact and stand united against any such undesirable activities.
MLA, Tarie, praised the RD department for being the one of the few departments doing noticeable developmental works at the grassroot level.
He also called upon the VDBs to cooperate with the department and its officials to gain maximum advantage for the overall economic uplift of the village.
He also said RD schemes so far were properly implemented without much hindrance in Peren district as compared to other districts.
RD director, Metusbo implored on the fact that women and youth should not be ignored in the overall developmental activities and that their due shares in the RD grant-in-aid should be given.
“Women should not be sidelined in wage payment under MGNREGA and that equal payment at par with the men should be given to them regardless of the amount of work done by them”, he added.
He also stressed on the importance of giving priority to the disabled people for rural housing under IAY, and encouraged the VDBs to give importance to micro-finance for the economic benefit of the village and to take it seriously.
Earlier, the function was chaired by Orepomo Kikon, PD DRDA, Peren, invocation prayer by Irui Keen, Pastor Union Baptist Church Peren, welcome address by DC Peren, Khrienuo C Metha and the vote of thanks by Chuba BDO Tenning Block.
